Sachsenburgen

Parts of the castle construction built in the 13th century are the lower castle such as the upper castle serving as defence of the that castle. Destruction and reconstruction works remains of walls, cellar vaults and the donjon of the castle are well preserved.

 

Straußberg

The in former times magnificient castle construction out of the 12th century was mainly used as a residence by the Earl of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen.
Later the castle dilapidated.
Kept and worth seeing today are the outwork and manor house such as the donjon with a fantastic view.

Arnsburg

In 1116 the castle was firstly mentioned in a document. When the peasants went to Bad Frankenhausen under the leadership of Thomas Müntzer they besieged and destroyed the castle Arnsburg. Only preserved is a 3-stone arc cellars with special vaults and the former rampart and moat.
