Kyffhäuser-Memorial

Located in the middle of the Kyffhäuser Mountains the legendary landmark of the region is fascinating again and again.
There are ruins still to be seen for visitors of the 11th century residence Kyffhausen, one of the largest and strongest medieval fortress constructions in Germany with a length of 600 metres and a width of 60 metres. Especially remarkable are the ruins of the lower part of the construction. Especially impressive however is the imposing Kyffhäuser Memorial (1890-1896) with its equestrian statue of Emperor Wilhelm the First an the statue of Barbarossa hewed out of stone. Go up the 247 steps up to the dome of the tower and enjoy the overwhelming panoramic view over the Goldene Aue Valley up to the Harz Mountains.
