Royal Palace Tilleda

Under the rule of the German King Heinrich numerous castles and palaces were built. To establish power respectively as a residency in the Kyffhäuser Region in the 1.half of the 10. century the palace Tilleda with main and lower part of the castle.

In the year 1174 Frederic the First Barbarossa stayed here before his 5th invasion to Italy.
Afterwards the construction dilapidated and lost importance.
Excavations between 1935 - 1979 started to build up a for Germany unique open-air museum.
By doing a round of the construction and looking at the reconstructed
residential and farm buildings the visitors learn interesting and worth knowing facts about the work in the Middle ages.
