walking

The Kyffhäuser Region in Thuringia, the Green Heart of Germany, is suitable for attractive walking-tours.

There are more than 1000 kilometre well-prepared and marked walking paths inviting for a walking-tour to get to know the varied countryside and to have intensive relaxation. This region has something very special to offer:

Whereever the wanderer is he is walking on historically rich paths. The fortress of the Old Germanic People, the medieval castles out of the time of Frederic the First,Barbarossa, the battle fields of the farmers rebellion, the castles and parks of the Dynasty of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen -

all those can be investigated by the way. Some long-distance walking paths cross the Kyffhäuser District. The most famous and most attractive is the Barbarossa Path leading over 326 kilometres from Korbach in Hesse to the Kyffhäuser Memorial.
