Barbarossa Cave

The largest plaster stone cave of Europe which is open up for tourists is located on the southern edge of the Kyffhäuser Mountains, only 5 kilometres from Bad Frankenhausen . Huge hollows with a span up to 42 metres, bizarre ceiling creations and crystal clear lakes determine the picture of the legendary grottos. Strangely looking pieces of cloth of a length of up to 1 metre hang down from the ceiling and look like drying hides in a tannery.

Along the 800 metre-long guided tour the enchanting "Neptun-Grotto", the mighty "Dancing-Hall" and the impressing "Lohgerberei" (comparison with a tannery) wait to be discovered.
