The reputation of Sondershausen as a music town is closely connected with the music traditions of the Loh-orchestra. Developed from a court orchestra of the earl out of the 17th century the musicians time and again caused sensation in their 350-year-history. Famous musicians such as Johann Simon Hermstedt, Max Erdmannsdörfer und Max Bruch were conductors, Franz List and Max Reger were really enthusiastic about the concerts. Even today the renowned orchestra carries on those traditions.
